Diesel Particulate Regeneration

If you have a modern diesel car, it almost certainly has a Diesel Particulate Filter. This is a complex component designed to trap harmful pollutants before they can escape into the atmosphere. However, to keep working efficiently, they need to be cleaned, through a process called diesel particulate regeneration. If the car is not driven in a way to regenerate the DPF it becomes blocked. The DPF light will illuminate on your dashboard and the car might lose power or go into limp-home mode. If the car has stop /start technology this will deactivate.
